Ownernship is increasing at a higher rate. 97%-99% have ownership of a mobile phone.
15yr olds are 4x more likely to get a rude message than 11yr olds.
Children having ownership…..8-11 18% own a phone12-14 75% 15 over 90%
7-10% reported that they have had a photo taken of them and felt uncomfortable about

Females: are mostly interested in social networking sites.
Males : are mostly interested in gaming sites, youtube, sporting and uploading videos.

Advice:
Avoid flaming – never respond -
Never retaliate.


  • Ensure all communication is respectful.
    Make sure that emotions are used when making a joke of being sarcastic.
    Be able to react appropriately when offensive material is written.
    It is not alright to say it is a joke.
    If you read a transcript of flaming on the internet most people can not do it. Why....because the reality of their behavior is in their face

In 2009, Childnet produced guidance for the DCSF on Cyberbullying in relation to 'Supporting school staff'. This document builds on the 2007 Safe to Learn Cyberbullying guidance, and provides advice for employers of school staff - Local Authorities and governing bodies. It also offers advice for school staff about keeping themselves and their personal information safe. It was written in consultation with the DCSF Cyberbullying Taskforce, and with support of the leading school employee unions and professional associations.
